Speaking At GilbaneBoston
I will be one of the speakers for Gilbane Boston this year. My particular contribution will be “Pitfalls & Profits In Federated Search” with a special focus on Sharepoint. More details after the jump.
If your enterprise is like most, then your hard-fought-for, hard-won information lives in silos, with each department seemingly more concerned about protecting their rice bowls than sharing for the good of the organization. So, how do you fix it? You could issue an order from the top and watch the program die on the vine as some stragglers slow roll the deployment. Or, you can look into federated searching, a way to integrate the data from each silo without requiring extensive re-engineering.
A well architected, well executed federated search ecosystem allows an enterprise the maximum flexibility with regards to their data; data can be stored in any environment, with security embedded at multiple gateways using as many models and protocols as needed, all while providing a consistent search environment for the end user.
In this talk, we will cover:
- The benefits of a federated search
- The problems with a federated search
- How a federated search differs from SOA search
- Political tips for implementing a federated search
- Technical tips for deploying a federated search
