A Quandry With LinkedIn
So, I generally believe the people with which you connect on LinkedIn should be limited to people you know, work with and (usually) respect. LI is becoming more and more established as a means of social proof for both potential startup investors and potential employers. There are those who consider the people on LI who add four, five new connections a day an undesirable connection (#2 in particular).
My quandry revolves around Resume Everywhere. The customer base for RE is comprised almost exclusively of recruiters. And recruiters are promiscuous on LinkedIn. With that in mind, I’m coming into contact with lots of recruiters at various conferences, meet & greets and functions. Somewhere between 40-50% of the recruiters I meet this way want to connect over LI. So, do I accept in order to try and build the business? Or decline and keep my “social proof” purity score high?
